Recovery Day

Recovery is my favorite part of the training cycle. It’s that day of the week I don’t feel bad about kicking my legs up and spending some quality time on the couch. Recovery is important because it is the time when you body is able to rebuild. Working out causes stress and teeny tiny tears in your muscles, when you allow for proper recovery your muscles have time to rebuild and that what makes you stronger. Here are some tips on how to maximize your recovery!

Compression:

Compression clothing is one of the easiest ways to maximize your recovery. Well designed compression garments stabilize tissue, facilitate fluid transfer and help prevent lactic acid build up. 2XU offers a variety of compression garments to make sure you are recovering from head to toe. 2XU’s compression clothing uses PWX fabric which features high grade elastomeric yarns, circular knit structure to allow 360 degree stretch, and unsurpassed power and flexibility. Sliding into a pair of 2XU’s Elite Compression Sock, Recovery Leg Sleeves, or Recovery Compression Top is like giving your muscles a big hug and telling them “good job”.

Nutrition:

Eat up! Recovery days are a great time to fill your body with delicious and healthy food. Including lots of protein and nutrient rich vegetables like kale, spinach, avocado. This spinach and cheese quinoa casserole is one of my favorites especially when paired with a fillet of salmon.

Stretch:

Roll out your favorite yoga mat and spend some time taking care of your body. Gentle stretching and self massage are an excellent ways to enhance your recovery without having to spend an arm and a leg on a massage therapist. Using tools like straps, tennis balls, and foam rollers allow you to work deep into muscles and reach those kinks you might not be able to do on your own.
