Accessories For a Chilly Run

Who’s running a Thanksgiving race? I am! The cool part of my race is you can pick a 5k or a 5mile. I started training for a 5k but with over a month left until the race I can definitely run the 5 mile! Running does not come naturally to me, so I need all of the help I can get! One thing that has helped my training immensely is the right gear.

My absolute must-have is something to keep my ears warm. My head and my ears hurt so badly if I don’t have something to cover them with. Does anyone else have this problem?

Lole Sublime Beanie

Lole Sublime Beanie

The Lole Sublime Beanie is great for running and keeping your ears and head warm. The  ponytail hole is crucial for my fellow long-haired runners. It’s made out of a light fleece and has a reflective logo.

Just want to keep your ears warm? Try the Trailheads Goodbye Girl Ponytail Headband. It also has a ponytail hole and is water repellent and durable to wick away rain and snow. Hopefully this won’t be needed or you might see me with this headband on crying during the race…I’m not ready for winter!

I haven’t had to break out the gloves just yet but when I do I’m going to put on the Lole Love Gloves. The Love gloves are light weight cool fleece and you are even able to text with them on (or maybe use a running app). If you need all of your fingers, you can roll the tops down.

New & Hot Racerbacks

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, the Just In section is the best! I love checking out the new and hot clothes that are freshly added to the site. Racerbacks are not only fashionable and sporty but they are really practical for working out.

The Be Present Modal Racerback Tank is a great everyday tank. it’s soft with some ruching and a little room in the torso. The good thing is, it also stays in place with a fitted waist. Best of both worlds!

The gathered back makes this racerback a little different and creates a flattering fit.

The Modal Racerback is great for practicing any style of yoga due to it drying quickly, breathability and bonus; its made in the USA.

The sassy Bluefish Sport Romance Tank is definitely hot! It’s slimming, soft and has a longer length. I love the lace patterned straps! Very romantic!

5 Necessary Tops

As we discussed earlier this week, I go through a mental checklist for buying new clothes. This helps me from buying 10 sparkly tops instead of what I really need, a smart base layer. You can check out 5 Necessary Bottoms from Thursday. Let’s go through the checklist for tops…

Do I have a running tee? Check.

Alo Activewear Short Sleeve Stitched Crew Neck Tee

Alo Activewear Short Sleeve Stitched Crew Neck Tee

The Alo Activewear Short Sleeve Stitched Crew Neck Tee is your everyday run, yoga, workout tee. It is a great piece to wear alone or layer. The Iris Heather color (shown above) is my favorite of the 3 choices.

Do I have a long sleeve? Check.

Cozy Orange Aries Long-Sleeve Eco Top - Raven Black

Cozy Orange Aries Long-Sleeve Eco Top – Raven Black

The Cozy Orange Aries Long-Sleeve Eco Top in Raven Black is a great long sleeve for running, yoga, or any other fitness activity. I wear my long sleeves in the fall and winter for yoga, walking and running. During yoga class, I like to layer this type of shirt with a tank top and put the long sleeve on during savasana to stay warm during my resting pose.

Do I have an everyday tank? Check.

Jala Clothing Ganesha Racer Tank

Jala Clothing Ganesha Racer Tank

I have the Jala Clothing Ganesha Racer Tank  in white. It’s amazing! The tank is super soft   and is fitted without being tight. I actually wore this on the plane to Rome because of how comfortable it is. A great, versatile top that can be worn everywhere that’s also very stylish.

Do I have a tank with a built in bra? Check.

Stonewear Designs Momentum Tank

Stonewear Designs Momentum Tank

I love wearing activewear that you don’t have to think too much about.  The Stonewear Designs Momentum Tank is one of those pieces. It already has a built in bra and has a lot of overall support during your workouts. The tank dries quickly, is durable, keeps its color and is made in the U.S.A.

What’s on your tops checklist?

5 Necessary Bottoms

Whenever I am shopping for activewear, I always go through a list in my head of the essentials. Remember, I get Shiny Object Syndrome, so I need to go through my checklist before I move on to the sparkly stuff!

Do I have a fitted bootcut pant? Check.

Cozy Orange Pisces Pants - Raven Black

Cozy Orange Pisces Pants – Raven Black

The Cozy Orange Pisces Pants is a great everyday pant that can be worn to yoga, working out or on a walk. It has a secret interior pocket for a credit card or your car key. The color blocked style is extra flattering.

Do I have a legging? Check.

RESE Activewear Kate Legging

RESE Activewear Kate Legging

In the summer I’m all about leggings. I wear them everywhere. When it starts to get cooler, I layer them with tall boots and a long fitted jacket or sweatshirt. The RESE Activewear Kate Legging are great for all activities. They are especially fabulous when you are working up a sweat since they have mesh paneling to keep air flowing! They have a side pocket and flat seams for added comfort.

Do I have a fun pant? Check.

Shining Indigo Island Tie-Dye Pants

Shining Indigo Island Tie-Dye Pants

You can’t express your true wild self without a “fun pant” as I call it. The Shining Indigo Island Tie-Dye Pants definitely fit the “fun pant” category! Bright, patterned and ready for yoga.

Do I have a great capri? Check.

Blue Canoe Workout Crop

Blue Canoe Workout Crop

I really like having a true capri in addition to a legging. The gentle flare is comfortable and feels more like a pant then a fitted legging. The Blue Canoe Workout Crop is a great addition to any workout wardrobe. It had a double thick waist and slits in the back of the legs for added movement and comfort.

Do I have a versatile pant for day to night? Check.

Blue Canoe Skinny Pants

Blue Canoe Skinny Pants

Now the Blue Canoe Skinny Pants are so unique and so hot! I was so excited when I saw these babies pop up on the ActivewearUSA website not too long ago. They are seriously sexy and can go from going out to working out with a change of shoes!

Once my list has at least one of each category, I move on to the necessary tops which I will check off later this week, so stay tuned! Tell me what are some of your necessary bottoms on facebook and twitter.

Add Some Pumpkin

It’s that time of year folks! When all you can see in the stores are apple spiced and pumpkin flavored snacks and additions. Your pinterst boards are probably filled with delicious fall treats. If you are going out to eat, pumpkin raviolis are now a staple on menus along with some sort of apple dessert. All of this food is delicious but can add up! I love to celebrate the seasons but in a healthier way. Here are some tips on how you can add in pumpkin and stay on track with your health goals.

MPG Sport Echo (pumpkin colored!)

1. Pumpkin Puree NOT Pumpkin Pie Mix

In the baking sections there are two types of canned pumpkin, one of the cans is pumpkin pie mix and the other is pure pumpkin puree. You want to get the pure pumpkin puree and add your own additions to the mix. Pumpkin has tons of vitamins and tons of fiber making it really good for you as long as its not loaded with sugar and other additives.

2. Focus on Spice

A pumpkin pie spice shaker is my best friend in the fall. Adding spice to food in general is a great way to add flavor without added sugar/oils.

3. Add It To Oats

I love making pumpkin oatmeal for a filling breakfast. I have either a packet of instant oats or make one serving and add a few tablespoons of pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice to the mix. I will sweeten it with a little honey, brown sugar or maple syrup. You could also add walnuts or sliced apples. Delicious!

4. Broth Based Soups

Instead of a creamy pumpkin soup try adding it to a broth based soup. Using vegetable broth is a great way to make soups lighter and more nutritious. Take the time to search recipes that don’t use heavy creams. To make it even more nutritions; add a handful of baby spinach or kale right at the end so it is gently wilted when served.

My advice is to be mindful and get creative. Don’t be afraid of seasonal foods but instead, create your own meals and snacks. I love using pinterest for inspiration in the kitchen. Happy weekend- eat some pumpkin!

Move Outdoors & Grab a Vest!

I love a good vest but I don’t love the dorky variety. They give the good ones a bad reputation! Remember Erkel? Or Chandler Bing’s famous sweater vest combinations? Yeah, I try to forget about them. Good thing ActivewearUSA has a great assortment of vests that look cute and keep you warm.

Why a vest? Two reasons:

1. Freedom to move! Vests keep you warm but you can move more with your arms free of bulk. This is great for hiking and outdoor activities. If you are always cold (like I am), keeping a vest on indoors doesn’t look as crazy as a full jacket.

2. Transition. Its a great transition piece for fall into winter. When the really cold weather hits, layer your vest with a jacket.

Some of my favorites:

Carve Designs Boundry Vest comes in this light brown color shown below and hydro (blue). You can also see that it has pockets, which is great for a walk or a hike when you don’t want to bring a bag for your keys and phone. It keeps you warm with a high zip and a button close. The vest is lined with shearling and has a water resistant ripstop.

Prana Diva Vest is a diamond quilted vest with a sherpa lining. It has on seam pockets for a sleek look and rib paneling.  The vest is fitted and falls right at the hip. The Diva Vest also comes in a black and white.

Patagonia Women’s W Adze Vest is hardcore! There are so many great features to keep you warm and protect you from the elements. They include; Polartec Windbloc stretch-woven polyester soft-shell fabric stops wind, a DWR finish resists precip, and a fleece grid backer warms and wicks moisture. The neck is lined with fleece for added comfort and a drawstring cord to keep the vest snug to your liking.

Workout After Work: Sneaky Activewear

Once it gets darker and colder it’s harder to get to the gym without feeling the need to go home and chill after a long day.  Changing into gym clothes is half the battle.  When I worked in an office, getting my clothes out and putting them on seems like too much work after work. The clothes featured below, are activewear pieces that can be paired with dress pants so half the changing is already done. Trick yourself into a great workout this fall!

1. Blue Canoe Wrap Top  is great to pair with black slacks or black yoga pants! After work, head to yoga in this lightweight top.

I love the terry cloth material! It has useful pockets and definition in the waist to create a flattering look. The Ivy color looks fabulous with brown or black boots. This is great to wear as an outer layer  but it would be great underneath a winter jacket for extra warmth.

Prana Caitlyn Tunic Sweater is a comfortable pull over great for travel, walks, class and weekend fun.

It is an Italian wool blend with a cross stitch pattern that has a double button closure for when you get a little chilly. There is also a hood for warmth and maybe a light fall rain. The front pocket is great for storing gloves…but maybe I’m getting ahead of myself!

With fall gearing up, what is your outerwear style? One thing I will definitely miss is flip flops! I am not ready to break out the wool boots! Tell us what you will be shopping for on twitter and facebook.
